It seems like almost everyone has a smart phone now a days. I know I own one and many people I work with do. They're basically mini computers, letting you check emails, surface the web, connect to your companies network and more.
However despite so many people having them, few have taken steps to make sure that their secure. It seems like its a blind spot for a lot of people. Which is rather scary if you think about how many companies use phones for work related issues. The company I work for had to learn the hard way how much of a leak cell phones can be. One of our employees sold their phone when the got a new one. Sadly it managed to get into the hands of a hacker and they managed to steal several thousand customers' data.
Now the company goes through the same company we get our hard drive degaussing done with to completely shred the phones and we only allow work phones to access the network.
Perhaps its all the years of cell phones only being good for phone calls and texting that makes us forget the security risk. Either way its clear that more steps need to be taken in order to prevent the growing risk of cell phone leaks.
