Tenant Scams

With all the stole identity, scams and fraud out there it always amazes me when I have renters who don't seem to be interested in learning anything about me. Perhaps its all the years of tenant screening and the some of the lies I've seen people caught in but I couldn't image not using www.tenantverification.com on every applicant and I can't understand why I've only ever had two applicants who wanted to run a background check on me.

Websites -Free vs Paying

There are a lot of free creation websites out there. So why would anyone want to purchase one. Well there are several reason why you would pay for a website.

  • More professional look
  • You want it SEO
  • Requires a database or programming
  • Looking for something unique
Most free sites are great for personal stuff however they tend to lack the professional look. Not to mention you'd be hard pressed to find a site with animation options, users areas and other features companies and organizations might require.

Template websites are also not very SEO oriented so it may very well be impossible to get your page on the front pages of Google searches.
Of course if none of these apply to use then a free site is probably perfectly fine for you.

Anonymous Strikes Again

One has to wonder if anywhere is safe. Anonymous is now claiming to have stolen stolen 40GB of data from one of Australia's largest internet service providers. Of course it is unclear which one it is however there is still quite an uproar at the groups newest hacking job.

It does look like the group has once again managed a successful strike despite government efforts.

Cell phone data leaks

It seems like almost everyone has a smart phone now a days. I know I own one and many people I work with do. They're basically mini computers, letting you check emails, surface the web, connect to your companies network and more.

However despite so many people having them, few have taken steps to make sure that their secure. It seems like its a blind spot for a lot of people. Which is rather scary if you think about how many companies use phones for work related issues. The company I work for had to learn the hard way how much of a leak cell phones can be. One of our employees sold their phone when the got a new one. Sadly it managed to get into the hands of a hacker and they managed to steal several thousand customers' data.

Now the company goes through the same company we get our hard drive degaussing done with  to completely shred the phones and we only allow work phones to access the network.

Perhaps its all the years of cell phones only being good for phone calls and texting that makes us forget the security risk. Either way its clear that more steps need to be taken in order to prevent the growing risk of cell phone leaks.
